Keep Your Music Files Organized

Label your stems, finals, and session files so any producer or engineer can pick the project up later.

The best time to organize a project is the moment you finish it. A messy folder costs you hours later, when you need to remix, master, or hand the song to someone else.

Export a final mix, and keep the individual tracks (stems) in a clearly labeled folder. Put the song name, tempo, and key in the folder name so nobody has to guess.

  • One folder per song, with subfolders for stems, final mixes, and artwork.
  • Name files the same way every time, for example song-name_tempo_key.
  • Keep a short text note with anything the next person needs to know.

Next step: the Artist Starter Pack includes stems for all three beats, so your projects start organized.
